Record Store Day Recap @ Josey Records

The highly anticipated Record Store Day attracted crowds to all the local record shops in Dallas promoting special releases and live musicians.

With all that Josey Records had to offer, you could have spent the entire day digging through vinyl, listening to live music, and enjoying a cold beer. Josey drew quite the crowd with a line of 120+ people before their 7 a.m. opening, while one dedicated RSD fan even camped out overnight for a top spot into the store. From early in the morning until closing, the crowd kept a steady pace, inviting vinyl-enthusiasts from all over Dallas to hang out with endless entertainment.

With the massive crowd, Josey had to pass out ticket numbers to control the volume to the Record Store Day special features. Some notable releases on the shelves were, Alt-J Live At Red Rocks, Dizzie Gillespie The Champ, Johnny Cash The Best of The Johnny Cash Show, and many more. Aside from the nationwide special releases, Josey released their 2016 spring series collaboration EP featuring 5 of the 6 bands that performed live in the shop last Saturday. The record exhibits a memorable array of musicians including local artists Native Fox, Cryptolog, Trai Bo, Ghoul5ive, and Taylor Louis & The Legacy from San Marcos, as well as Austin-natives, Malandros.

The crowd favorite, Malandros closed out the day with some good ol’ rock & roll. Their soft surfer rock vibe brought in the crowd and resounded a contagious energy. Playing songs off their album, Milk & Cereal, Malandros jammed to favorites like “Philadelphia” and “Mess of Mine”, as well as their their surprising cover of Linger by The Cranberries that had the entire crowd singing along.
