Seysei Concert Recap
Local Indian pop artist Seysei gave a fierce performance during her single release show for “Call Me ‘Baby’” at the Curtain Club last Thursday. Even before Seysei stepped on stage, DJ Andoren had the crowd hopping, popping, and breakdancing. Seysei leaped on stage, followed by her two backup dancers — a clear standout element that elevates Seysei’s entire aesthetic. The performance was a swirl of colored lights and sweeping hair moving to rhythmic beats and strong vocals. After a powerful opening, Seysei mellowed the performance with “Through the Storm,” a song about giving her all to a friend struggling with addiction. “I wanted to show you how I actually start making music, it starts with a guitar,” she said as her and Erfan Ebadipour were left alone on stage.
DJ Andoren, violinist Jane Kim, and dancers Valerie Gomez and Madelyn Vincent, joined Seysei back on stage for “Call Me ‘Baby’”. Seysei taught the audience part of the song before launching into it. “Call Me ‘Baby’” is an upbeat love song about how a single word can deepen a relationship. After another explosion of musical vibrations buzzing through the floor, the concert diffused into freestyle circles and a dance party. Seysei and her team joined the crowd to dance, while DJ Rizkilla spinned for two hours after the show.
“Having a team is everything, you creatives know that,” said Seysei, a fact that was apparent throughout the concert. The creativity that bounced from every musician and dancer on and off of the stage was inspiring. Seysei and her team brought a community together, that will continue to grow.
