Swimming With Bears/The Cuckoos Concert Recap
Last Friday at Three Links everyone got to experience some exciting new bands out of Austin, TX. Psych/funk band The Cuckoos’s took the stage in style first, opening for Swimming With Bears. Front man, Kenneth Frost, carried the unique essence of the band with his keytar, lace ascot, silver-gold trench coat and draping black bangs. His ornate glitter blazer was decorated with punk studs and brought reinforced the essence the band portrayed. Their sound had a contrasting darkness with refreshing, upbeat hooks reminiscent of The Doors. Frost’s keytar created a funky Halloween feel laced with dark, breathy screams, met with a bit of punk-rock liveliness. Haunting and heavy, the Cuckoos put it all out for Three Links, playing favorites like “New Sunrise”.
Headliner Swimming with Bears really revved up the crowd as the night progressed, bringing an upbeat, feel-good tone to contrast The Cuckoos set. The four-piece out of Austin, Texas perfected their high pitched vocals, dancey tunes and an uplifting funk rock. You could feel their energy translated back into the crowd. Their new single "French Girls" which has had airplay with Sirius XM’s Alt Nation, was a crowd favorite and got everyones attention in Three Links. Be on the lookout for more new music from Swimming With Bears later this year and definitely check them out next time they roll through Dallas.
