Welcome to "The Dig" our weekly rundown of our favorite things happening in music right now and a look ahead at what we are excited for this week.
Last Friday the Austin based psychedelic rocker Ty Richards released, "Killjoy", his second single from his upcoming album Welcome to Flat Earth. "‘Killjoy’ is a snarky little number,” said Ty Richards. “Everyone has that special person in their life that is out to destroy all fun. This song is dedicated to them. If you don’t know a person like that, then it’s probably you.”
Richards new album Welcome to Flat Earth was recorded entirely to eight-track tape with no computers at his home studio. The new synth driven single shows off his amazing creativity and sound Richards calls psychedelic Nintendo punk. The album is coming out on 4/20 - but you can pre-order it here on cassette, vinyl and digital.
Medicine Man Revival
The soulful futuristic duo of Keite Young and Jason Burt, known as Medicine Man Revival, just released their second music video from their highly anticipated debut album. The video for "Voodoo Queen" was shot at the historic Texas Theater and directed by Tramaine Townsend. Check out the amazing video below.
The second annual Fortress Festival released their lineup earlier this year but surprised everyone when they announced last week that the electro-funk duo Chromeo would be headlining Saturday's lineup. The already stacked lineup somehow just got even better and gave festival goers one more reason to be excited for April. If you haven't purchased your tickets yet, click here.
Last Sunday at Deep Ellum Art Company, Decent Showcase featured 10 bands from 4 countries, all coming through town on the way to SXSW in Austin. Check out some photos of the performances below.
