Welcome to "The Dig" our weekly rundown of our favorite things happening in music right now and a look ahead at what we are excited for this week.
One of our favorite Nashville artists that plays frequently in Dallas, Rayland Baxter, just released his first single "Cassanova" off his new album Wide Awake out July 13th. Rayland had this to say about his upcoming album, “It's’ a musical account of my time inside an awakening that arrived at an old rubber band factory in Kentucky. There, I lived for three winter months...loving the solitude and listening to the world in and around me making a note here and there of my findings. I slept a little bit and wrote a lot, wide awake in a room with no windows. When it came time to record the album, leaning on the guidance of my friends, we trekked out to Santa Monica, CA to record with producer Butch Walker." Check out the new track below.
Hometown favorite Leon Bridges released his highly anticipated sophomore album Good Thing last week. Good Thing is departure from his nostalgic early ’60s Sam Cooke sounding soul music featured on 2015’s Coming Home. While this may have been a shock to a lot of his fans, it's a move that was necessary to more of contemporary sound and show off his versatility as an artist. Bridges new sound is more reflective of his influences growing up in the ’90s, with R&B artists like Usher and Ginuwine. Bridges new adventurous sound is most the most visible in songs like “If It Feels Good (Then It Must Be)” and “You Don’t Know.”
Make sure to check out Leon Bridges when he goes on tour this summer. You can purchase tickets to his show in Irving, TX at the Toyota Music Factory on June 9th, here!
Local singer/songwriter/producer Christopher Blake just released a new track called “What Have I Done” featuring Bailey Graham. Blake tells us, "The song tells the story of two separate characters repenting for their wrong doings in their respective relationships all set to a beautiful electronic RnB soundscape". We really dig the song and we think you will too, give it a listen below.
