The Dig

Welcome to "The Dig" our weekly rundown of our favorite things happening in music right now and a look ahead at what we are excited for this week.

Hello Shannon

Last Friday the Indie/Alternative Pop Band, Hello Shannon, released their latest single "Slowly".  The beautiful haunting song shows off the powerful vocal range by lead singer Shannon Camacho.  Shannon had this to say about the meaning behind their new song:

"The beauty of songwriting is that a song that you wrote a year ago can take on new meaning as time goes on. The song initially came from a place of frustration as I was having trouble balancing my time. I actually wrote this song in the car when I was running late to something and was feeling inspired to write and that was the only time that I had that day. Since then it's taken on new meaning because I often feel like I don't have time to feel what I need to feel or to let myself process the weight of my emotions. Sometimes you have to give yourself time to struggle through what you're feeling and I often feel that I can't afford to stop long enough to struggle through those feelings accordingly. Because if I let myself stop and sit for a minute, that minute that I'm taking for myself is a minute that I need to be doing all the things that will help me move forward."

Hello Shannon also is working on putting out a 10 song full-length album, to donate to their album fundraiser click here.

Another artist that released a new single last week was local singer-songwriter Dan Rocha Jr.  His song "The Hardest Way" shows off his ability to easily pair his soulful voice with his killer guitar playing, one of the many reasons why Rocha is a staple in the Dallas music community.  We caught up with the artists and asked him the story behind his latest single.

"It's about a breakup I had and their faithless Groundhog Day of existence" said Rocha. "Meeting that person that you know is your other half but they are so damaged by the time you get to them, they won't allow you to love them properly and intentionally derail things.  When you become somewhat despondent to their antics they blame you for not being all they need to keep them happy and they start to hit the exit button. That's the meaning by the lyrics ' You do it the hardest way, it could be easy but you run away. You do it the heartless way, it's never easy when you have no faith'.

Don't miss Dan Rocha Jr.  performing this Tuesday, October 24th at the Rustic.
